Why this exists, and where it's headed.
Specimen started as a study tool. I kept finding myself bouncing between half a dozen databases just to understand one gene — UniProt for function, RCSB or AlphaFold for structure, Reactome for pathways, each one built for researchers who already speak the field's language fluently. Specimen pulls that same information into one place and presents it like a field guide instead of a reference manual: structured, readable, and built for someone trying to learn the material.
It's free, and still growing one feature at a time, mostly shaped by whatever I run into in my own studying along the way. If something here is confusing, missing, or could be clearer, that's exactly the kind of feedback worth hearing get in touch.
